Janus Films
So, to echo Kyle:

Most of you know I enjoy films, particularly independent films that actually say and mean something. This film company, Janus Films, has for the last several decades been distributing some of the best films made here and internationally.
It certainly would be a great idea for many of us to get together and try to buy this film project. I know they don’t include masterpieces like “Armageddon” and “Legally Blonde”, but you just might actually experience the power of film through these selections.
A step backward
Funny how patriotism must be taught in order for people to want to go to war.
You would also think that after we did this to them, they’d never want to consider war again:

A Teaser
So…here’s some stuff I will NOT be posting tonight. And probably not tomorrow or Friday. Maybe Saturday or Sunday, but at least by Monday evening.
1) The long promised list of quotes from Mr. Doug’s college notes. It will be quite a process as I’m sure most of you can guess at the state of his class notes. In addition, I will be posting any “conversations” he had with other members of his classes.
2) An echoing call to Bickle’s post about the Janus Films Compendium.
3) A paper on religious peacebuilding that I’ve written for a professor and which will constitute a portion of my thesis. I also intend to submit it to some conferences next year. I may wait until the paper is submitted and returned, so it might actually be a couple weeks before this one appears.
4) Some uplifting thoughts and reactions to my denomination.

Lower Lights
Many of you know that one of the wonderful things the Church of the Nazarene does is help fund and support projects like Lower Lights Ministries in Columbus.
I met with David Gay, the executive director of LL, on Monday. He took me to a real good deli in Franklinton and then showed me the buildings they own and the plans they have. I’d encourage all of you to spend some time on their website, familiarizing yourself with what they are doing. And then go ahead and fill out a volunteer form.
David expressed to me the ideas they have as far as ministry go and I was really happy to hear for once a real healthy and holistic view. There is no thought of “converting” to Christianity without the fullness of reconciliation; whether that means to their community or family or God or all of them. There is no thought of education that does not instill the idea that education is not only to better yourself but to better your family and community as well. There is no thought of service that does not involve those being served into a process in which they become the giver as well.
I hope you take the time to look this place up.
The image I shot in Grenada of the broken Jesus stayed in my head for most of the time I was with David. I’m not sure why it popped in there. I guess because most often the Jesus I see is the well dressed, well behaved one. And i suppose that’s not all bad, but when I see the broken, disheveled one…it hits me very differently.

I have a lot of friends I miss in Columbus.
And I don’t want to choose favorites….
